Creating a custom template

Wikis > NextCellent Plugin > Guides and FAQ > Creating a custom template

NextCellent uses templates to display and render images, galleries and albums. You can easily use and extend these templates to make your own template, adapting NextCellent to virtually any theme. Learn how to make your own template below.

Saving the file

Go to your the view folder in the NextCellent plugin folder. This is often located here: wp-content/plugins/nextcellent-gallery/view/.

Copy the file that you need according to what you want to do. If you just want to slightly alter a existing templates, copy the one you want to alter. If you want to create a totally new one, skip this part.

Now make a folder called nggallery inside your theme folder. Paste the copied file into this folder, or make a new one.

Rename the file to what shortcode you want to use it with, adding the template name. Examples:

  • With albums: album-template_name.php
  • With galleries: gallery-template_name.php

More information about the names can be found here.

The file contents

The template files are simple php files. The file is pretty self-explanatory for those who know a little html/php.
